The Aussie classic, with a wholesome twist

We're all about finding simple ways to make everyday favourites a little more nourishing, without taking away the reason you wanted them in the first place.

And when it comes to a chocolate slice, it still needs to taste like chocolate slice.

This recipe starts with Weet-Bix and desiccated coconut, then adds rich cocoa, creamy almond butter, honey and vanilla.

They're simple ingredients that come together to create something that feels like a proper treat.

And if you want to take it one step further, melt some dark chocolate over the top before popping it in the fridge.

Trust us, it's worth it.

Why you'll love this recipe

First of all, no oven required.

Everything comes together in a bowl before being pressed into a tin and left in the fridge to set.

That makes it an easy recipe to prep ahead when you know you've got a busy week coming up.

Make it on Sunday, slice it into 12 pieces and you've got a homemade chocolate treat ready and waiting in the fridge.

Perfect for that 3pm cup of coffee, an after-dinner treat or whenever you feel like something chocolatey.

Because sometimes you don't need to fight the chocolate craving.

You just need a really good chocolate recipe.

Your questions, answered

Do I need to bake the slice?

No! Once everything is combined and pressed into the tin, it goes straight into the fridge to set. Give it at least two hours to firm up before slicing.

Can I leave off the chocolate topping?

Absolutely. The slice already gets plenty of chocolate flavour from the cocoa powder.

The dark chocolate topping is completely optional — although if you're making this because you're craving chocolate, it's a pretty delicious addition.

Is this a good recipe to make ahead?

Yes. In fact, that's when this recipe really shines.

Make a batch when you've got 15 minutes, portion it into 12 pieces once it's set and keep it in the fridge. Then you've got something ready to reach for throughout the week.

Is the slice dairy-free?

The recipe itself is dairy-free. If you choose to add the optional chocolate topping, check that the chocolate chips you use are also dairy-free if this is important for you.

There's always room for something sweet

Eating well doesn't mean trying to turn every chocolate craving into a piece of fruit.

And it definitely doesn't mean feeling guilty for wanting something sweet.

Food can be nourishing and enjoyable.

Some days your afternoon snack might be yoghurt and berries. Other days you might want a piece of homemade Chocolate Weet-Bix Slice with your coffee.

Both have a place.

That's what we love about recipes like this. They're simple, made with familiar ingredients and, most importantly, something you'll genuinely look forward to eating.

So crush up those Weet-Bix, grab the cocoa and make some room in the fridge.
